Meet the guide
This is Mica, he is native from Arembepe and has been helping organise and guide everyone there since 2005.
He speaks fluent English and has lived in the UK for many years.
He knows everyone in Arembepe. He will be able to guide you and assist with anything you need as well as introduce you to his family and friends. Together with Mestre Bobo from Abolicao Capoeira Group they're the BEST ones to show you around and take care of you while you are there!
Meet the Hippie Village
This is where Janis Joplin, Jimmy cliff and Mick Jagger have spent their holidays in the 70's!
This magical hippie village attracts tourists from all over Brazil and abroad! It's the only hippie village still remaining in Brazil and it's situated just 10 mins walk along the beach from our hotel. It is now a natural reserve. The local hippies still live in the village. They are very naturalists and choose to live on the sale of their art work alone and without electricity.
The strong knit community in Arembepe love to take care of their village too. They are friendly and love tourists. You're sure to feel welcome and part of this magical place right from the beginning of your adventure in Bahia, Brazil!

I've been asked to say a few words about my stay in Brazil with Mica, Thiassa and Ahran November 2010.
First off, Arambepe is probably the closest you could hope to get to a tropical paradise - blue skies, blue water, white sand, and deserted beaches lined with coconut trees. It is Mica's family's home town, and everyone knows, likes and respects him, so you are welcomed as a great friend from day one. The capoeira group are especially friendly and keen to involve you in their training, rodas and most importantly, partying. Very little English is spoken, so I'd recommend learning a bit of Portuguese before you go, but everyone is keen to chat and drink with you (whether you understand or not!) and you soon pick up the basics. I absolutely loved my stay and hope to go back one day. So my advice for anyone thinking of going is to do it! And pack enough factor 50 to cover a baby elephant. x |

I was one of the lucky members to experience the Brazilian tour that Thaissa had organised in 2005/2006. If you love Capoeira and Samba, then this is an amazing experience for anyone who decides to go. I only took part in the Samba classes whilst I was in Arembepe, however, I did watch the other guys train for the Capoeira and Rodas and it looked amazing but a lot of hard work, and I’m sure after all the sweating, scabby feet and minor injuries – it was all very rewarding. The trip is not only focused on to further your Capoeira skills, but it’s a great place for relaxing and just chilling out. At night, you can see the Milky Way and it’s very convenient for surfing as the beach is literally a stone throw away. …..phew….so much to tell! Best advice is to go there and experience it yourself!
